Pen and ink + digital, 2016

Lara Veleda Vesta, MFA, I am an artist, writer and educator transforming a myth path of chronic illness into healing and reclaiming. I am the author of The Moon Divas Guidebook, and The Moon Divas Oracle, illustrator of The Moon Divas Oracle Cards and Wild Soul Runes: Reawakening the Ancestral Feminine. My research interests include ancestral connection, myth-telling and disability as initiation, and I am currently completing an illustrated guide to death transitions. I share my path of myth, folk magic, ancestor lore and ritual practice with my Patreon community and through classes at the Wild Soul School.

My art is both healer and integrator, reweaving strands of the web of wyrd, or fate, from myth, history and archaeology. My process is ceremonial, as I seek to reveal through art the pre-Christian spiritualities of my ancestors. Symbol and story are both vital to these creations and the work of Marija Gimbutas and Dr. Mara Lynn Keller have both been very influential in building my relationship to the deep past of Old Europe and archaeomythology. I live with a debilitating chronic illness and neurological disability, the process of image creation has been an essential component of my healing journey. I work first by hand in pen and ink, then digitally overlay the image on a cosmological phenomenon, linking the micro and macro, inverting the images to produce colored threads which represent, to me, the web of life that binds us universally. The works submitted are drawn from my various lineages and all contain symbols from the Old European Sacred Script and Mesolithic/Neolithic grave goods.
